Burundi History and Cultural Tour


Day1: Bujumbura City Tour

Half day tour in Bujumbura which will include historical, cultural and nature adventures of the city and its surroundings. Visit Rusizi National Park where a possible boat tour in Rusizi river can let you explore closer the hippo, numerous birds and also the joining point where Rusizi River pours into Lake Tanganyika;

Belvedere Climb which offers a nice view of Bujumbura city, and get a closer look of the Independence hero monument.After, we visit explorers Memorial, a huge rock in the Suburbs of Bujumbura commemorating the meeting between explorers Stanley and Livingstone. Dinner and overnight at Hotel Club du Lac Tanganyika or similar

Day2: Kiganda Inaugural Grounds-Gitega


After breakfast, drive towards Kiganda in Muramvya Commune. This is a well hidden site that is rich in Colonial History of Burundi. Visit the well maintained theme park which is on the grounds where King Mwezi Gisabo signed a treaty with German colonial authorities in 1890. Later get a walk in the lash green field that commemorates the inaugurations of the ancient kings of Burundi. Here, inauguration symbolic trees have been planted and there is also a symbolic ancient royal palace, with all its all aspects of ancient kingdom. Lunch at Muramvya and later drive to Gitega. Overnight at Tropicana Hotel

Day3: Gitega – Gishora

After breakfast visit of the drum sanctuary of Gishora.Gishora is one of the famous drum sites of Burundi. Gishora is perched on the top of a hill at 7km from the urban centre of Gitega
The site of Gishora also houses two ritual drums that were never beaten : Ruciteme (the one for whom we clear the forest) and Murimirwa (the one for whom we cultivate).
The two names are intimately linked to the farming vocation and refer clearly to the fertility, characteristic of the king. We have also ordinary drums which the Batimbo could beat on special occasions of the country.
Visit the drum sanctuary of Gishora to relive the cultural tradition of Burundi. The site recreates an architectural complex of Royal palace, rarely found elsewhere in the country. Here drummers' performance can be watched.
After lunch in Gitega, have a tour of the town. Gitega is the second largest town of the country, with its typical colonial architecture. It hosts the National Museum with its ethnographic and archaeological collections.
Later drive to Bujumbura for overnight at Hotel Club du Lac Tanganyika or similar.

Day4: Airport transfer
